Your Opportunity
This is an exciting entry-level Environmental Technician
opportunity to join our growing Midwest Environmental Services
group. This position will perform a variety of tasks related to
assisting our project teams with wildlife surveys, archaeological
surveys, ecosystem restoration, construction oversight, wetland
delineations, and other opportunities as needed. This is a
casual/temporary position. It's anticipated that this position will
work 40 hours most weeks. There may be some weeks less than 40
hours a week. Stantec will be responsible for training and travel
expenses. This position will initially include working near
Kirksville, MO, along with various locations throughout the Midwest
as needed.
Your Key Responsibilities
This technician level position will support project teams across
the Midwest. This position requires travel for short-term and
long-term field assignments.
Specific job tasks include completing field surveys, environmental
monitoring of construction projects, implementing habitat
restoration and vegetation management, equipment maintenance, and
maintaining field and safety documentation.
The initial task will consist of conducting post-construction
mortality surveys for birds and bats by walking transect under wind
turbines.
Perform and document field data collection activities.
Learn and follow standard operating procedures for work assigned,
while continuing to develop skills.
Follow established standards, policies, procedures, and
guidelines.
Using GPS via iPad.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
An interest in ecosystems, natural resource conservation, and the
outdoors is essential.
Willing and able to travel for extended periods.
Ability to walk up to approximately 10 miles per day.
Effective communicator and team player.
Organized and capable of following detailed instructions.
Must have the willingness to learn new skills while conducting
field work in rural outdoor settings.
Ability to obtain training and certifications as needed to perform
specific tasks.
Applies logic and technical capabilities to resolve technical
issues in an effective manner.
Basic understanding of technical writing skills.
Conscientious, organized, and disciplined.
Working understanding of policies and procedures for health and
safety, including client-specific training (as required), and
demonstrates use and understanding of these policies and procedures
as appropriate to their work.
Builds and maintains productive professional and personal
networking relationships within their technical team, Business
Center, and region.
The successful candidate will have a diverse skill set in multiple
environmental disciplines and a passion for lifelong learning.
Good driving record and valid driver's license required.
Ability to obtain training and certifications as needed to perform
specific tasks.
Pass a pre-employment drug screen.
Education and Experience
Associate or Bachelor's degree in an environmental discipline
Must have a professional and academic background in biology or
natural resources
Previous experience utilizing iPads and must be comfortable with
computers, tablets, and GPS units
Field work will include walking long distances and may include
exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
Experience operating and maintaining equipment preferred including
tractors and skid steers.
Ability to identify bird (including raptors) and bat species is
preferred, but not required.
