Summary: Kaas Wilson Architects is an award-winning architectural firm located in Bloomington. Our well-managed team of 50+ architects, interior designers, and interns operate in an open, fast-paced, and collaborative office environment that brings design experience and a team approach together, creating beautiful, practical, and livable built environments. Our office is focused on multi-family housing, senior living, renovations, historic preservation, and related commercial projects with current project locations across the country but focused in the Midwest. The Construction Administration Technician will be responsible for providing assistance to the Construction Administration Assistant Project Managers, Project Managers, Senior Project Managers, and Director of Contractor Administration. Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assists in Observing the work; including but not limited to: perform periodic site visits
  • Reviews submittals, project samples, and project data. Responds to requests for information from the general contractor and owner, and interprets the Construction Documents
  • Reviews the contractor's requests for substitutions
  • Maintains current knowledge of the owner-architect agreement and any additional services agreements and provides professional services in accordance with these documents
  • Applies comprehensive knowledge of all types of building systems; such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire suppression, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, security and low voltage to construction project
  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable codes for project and resolves issues with inspectors and other authorities having jurisdiction
  • Uses standard protocol for communication with and between team members, to include the owner, architect/engineer team, contractor staff and subcontractors
  • Help to schedule and coordinate project tasks (as assigned by the Project Manager) in logical steps; budget the time necessary to meet each deadline.
  • Assist with preparation of plans and specifications, reports, and other deliverables
  • Assist in ordering construction materials and samples when needed
  • Archive and organize the CA material library
  • Participate in all onsite punchlist walkthroughs
  • Provide basic administrative support and help with special projects as needed
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Construction Management, or Construction Science required.
    • One to two years of construction related experience required.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
    • Understanding of contracts, plans, specifications, and regulations.
    • Ability to remain flexible and efficient in a fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to make intelligent and quick decisions, working well under pressure, and when faced with unexpected occurrences or delays.
    • Ability to effectively multitask while analyzing and solving problems.
    • Thorough understanding of engineering, architectural, and other construction drawings.
    • Knowledge of Bluebeam, PlanGrid, Submittal Platforms, and some Revit Knowledge. Other Requirements:
      • Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.
      • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
      • May require travel.
      • Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
      • Must be on-call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues at the jobsite. Compensation and Benefits:
