About the Job

Postdoctoral Positions in the Optical Engineering of Organic SemiconductorsDepartment of Chemical Engineering & Materials ScienceUniversity of MinnesotaWe seek 1 to 2 postdoctoral associates for a joint project on engineering the optical behavior (e.g. birefringence, polarization behavior) of crystalline and polycrystalline organic semiconductor materials. Ideal candidates will have experience in combinations of the following areas: organic thin film and crystal growth, structural characterization by X-ray diffraction, ellipsometry of anisotropic materials, and electrical and optical measurements (especially measurements of OLEDs and light polarization behavior). Experience in simulating and modeling optical phenomenon in anisotropic optical media is also desired. Postdoctoral scholars will work in the Frisbie and Holmes research groups with access to a variety of state-of-the-art instrumentation for growth and characterization of organic materials and devices, including multiple film deposition systems, crystal growth apparatus, electrical and spectroscopic characterization tools, force microscopes, probe stations, a nanoimprinter and an aerosol jet printer. Central facilities including the Minnesota Nano Center and the Materials Characterization Facility provide a vast array of additional instrumentation resources. Candidates should be independent, possess excellent organization and communication abilities, and be comfortable interacting regularly with external stakeholders. We seek to fill these positions immediately. Qualified candidates will have a PhD in materials science, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, chemistry, physics, or a related discipline, and should be motivated to work in a stimulating interdisciplinary environment.
