Overview
The Systems of Record Principal Domain Architect is a key role in
the Enterprise Architecture (EA) practice in MHealth Fairview's
(MHF) IT department. As a member of the EA team, this role
contributes to the development of an architected IT function for
digital competency, with a focus on the data domain and obtaining
value and insights from core systems of record (e.g., clinical, HR
and finance systems). This role contributes to and applies MHF's EA
practices to precisely create architecture designs and roadmaps.
This role is responsible for analyzing the data needs of the
organization, expanding and optimizing the data along its various
facets (e.g., quality, accessibility) and data pipeline
architecture, as well as optimizing data flow across the
enterprise. This data domain architect will support the application
and analytics teams working with application developers, data
engineers, integration developers, data analysts and data scientist
on initiatives to ensure the data architecture and processes are
consistent throughout the enterprise. The principal domain
architect will provide architectural guidance, technological
vision, and solution development. Specifically, this position will
develop target architecture and plans for the domain pertaining to
data assets, data infrastructure, data analytics capabilities and
processes to enable business partners, advanced analytics, and data
science/researcher users ultimately to achieve a competitive
advantage for the organization. This delivery includes
understanding and managing the data, how it interconnects, and
architecting data for self-serve business intelligence, application
interoperability opportunities and improved digital capabilities.
This position will require the architect to be both business savvy
and an expert in data analytics including various data technologies
in order to frame the problem, shape proposed solutions, and
champion implementation and organizational change.
The Systems of Record Principal Domain Architect collaborates with
other architects in the EA practice to develop a single, cohesive
architecture and management plan for the IT enterprise, develops
living architecture and repository for reference and use across
MHF, and contributes to mature the EA practice. This role works
closely with domain leaders and subject matter experts to develop
target architecture and plan for the domain, presents the plan to
management and explains why it is in the organization's best
interest to pursue it, and helps to strategically source
technologies, partners and talent that are needed to achieve target
capabilities. The Systems of Record Principal Domain Architect must
be able to rapidly develop a strong understanding of IT strategy,
business goals, and operating constraints of the IT organization,
and current state of the IT stack. As domain expert, this role must
be able to synthesize architecture plans with an informed view of
new and emerging technology solutions and flexible talent models to
enable agile digital transformation in IT. This role must possess
an executive presence and excellent interpersonal skills as the
incumbent will often lead via influence across multiple IT
functions to drive new initiatives and practices. Responsibilities
Design and continuously refine MHF's data architecture to support
the organization's digital transformation and the next generation
of products and data initiatives
Design and drive end to end multi-cloud, cloud agnostic, data
solution architecture from concept through development and
delivery
Produce data architecture best practices and guidelines for data
engineering development, data modeling and data quality results
Evangelize and consult on enterprise data architecture in order to
reduce data silos and promote the efficient, effective, accurate
and secure use of data throughout the organization
Guide and assist in the development and implementation of data
collection systems as necessary
Reduce redundancy, enable accessibility within security boundaries
and foster corporate understanding of the meaning of the data
Design, develop, and support conceptual/logical/physical data
models, structure and attributes of data elements to facilitate
integration and data exchange with internal and external
partners/vendors
Track, analyze and communicate commercial technology trends to
non-technical audience
Review the solution requirements and lead the architecture to
ensure selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of
resources and integration of multiple systems and technology
Review diverse data sources and determine how to bring together to
meet data reporting and interoperability requirements
Evaluate sources of information to determine possible limitations
in reliability, consistency, quality and/or usability and
proactively propose solutions as necessary
Utilize extensive experience / knowledge of master data management,
data governance, data quality, and data security to optimize end to
end data pipelines
Investigate, troubleshoot, and assist in design solutions of
complex data engineering problems
Ensures that industry-accepted architecture principles, standards,
guidelines and concepts are integrated with those of allied
disciplines and coordinated roll-out and adoption strategies are in
place
Understand and diligently apply MHF's EA methodology, framework and
process to contribute to the development of a single, cohesive
architecture for the IT enterprise.
Create architecture views, artifacts for architecture analysis and
documentation, and management plan using the tools and templates
prescribed by MHF's EA framework
Upload architecture development plan and documentation into MHF's
online living architecture and EA repository to enable reference
and use across MHF
Effectively contribute to improvement efforts within EA to mature
the practice, develop architecture expertise and promulgate EA
thinking and use across IT Artifacts accountable for:
All artifacts prescribed by MHF's EA framework, appropriately
phased for priority. Qualifications
Required
Education Bachelor's degree in computer science, information
technology or related field or equivalent combination of
education/experience Experience 10+ years' experience in data
engineering
7+ years' experience in data architect positions 5+ years of
digital data management industry experience
Demonstrated ability to synthesize research on broad industry
trends, present different and leading discussion on pro/con around
approach and choices of design, technology and operations.
Demonstrated ability to simplify complex technical subject matter
and communicate the business and operations impact of choices to
business and IT leaders. Experience designing and building data
solutions across multiple cloud vendors and on premises systems,
including leveraging open source ecosystem
Applied experience in an agile delivery environment utilizing a
combination of Scrum, Kanban, Lean Software Development, XP or
other agile process frameworks
Demonstrated experience with different data models like normalized,
de-normalized, stars, and snowflake models. Worked with
transactional, temporal, time series, and structured and
unstructured data. Experience using the following software/tools:
Relational SQL and NoSQL databases
ETL Development Tools
Data lifecycle
Data pipeline and workflow management tools
Cloud services
Data orchestration / integration / service bus tools
API services
Stream-processing systems
Data Lakes and data marts
Object-oriented/object function scripting languages Demonstrated
experience with Data Quality Management Experience with at least
one data governance and metadata management tools ( Collibra,
Reltio, Inofrmatica, SnapLogic ) Preferred
Education Advanced degree in computer science, information
technology or related Experience 10+ years' experience in data
architect positions
10+ years of digital data management industry experience 5+ years'
experience designing and building data technology or analytics
solutions across multiple cloud vendors including leveraging open
source ecosystem
Experience with Teams, DevOps, Rally, JIRA, Confluence and other
productivity tools
Experience with leading / managing data classifications
In-depth knowledge of and proven cloud experience with multi-cloud
data management and hybrid business intelligence stacks
Experience with healthcare data terminologies, high-performance
computing License/Certification/Registration At least any one of
common architecture frameworks (TOGAF, Zachmann, DODAF, FEAF)
