General Statement of Responsibilities:The Coding Specialist is responsible for all aspects of coding and compliance and will serve as the coding resource person at Boynton Health. This position is responsible for coding education and training, auditing, and monitoring coding compliance. The Coding Specialist will analyze and abstract information from the medical record in order to assign the appropriate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes to accurately describe the diagnoses and procedures performed by the medical provider.Detailed Job Responsibilities:

Review medical record documentation and accurately assign ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes, according to established correct coding guidelines and AHIMA's standards of ethical coding. Serve as a resource person for coding and compliance questions. Instruct physician and non-physician practitioners on compliance regulations and coding guidelines. Document coding and compliance education sessions with medical providers i.e., attendance, methods, context and evaluation of feedback. Train and educate support staff involved in various aspects of coding. Create and maintain up-to-date coding compliance manuals, materials, and policies to be used for staff education, training, guidance, and charge capture. Implement, monitor and follow the clinics Compliance Work Plan with the direction of the Director of Compliance. Perform audits/internal monitoring of medical record documentation and corresponding coding. Provide reports and feedback. Educate on deficient areas discovered in audit. Make recommendations and follow-up. Quality check coding encounters prior to billing Summarize and distribute updates and changes to coding and compliance issues from third-party payers. Analyze problem claims, compare coding with medical record documentation and make any appropriate changes. Consult with medical providers when necessary for reasons of clarifications of coding and compliance issues. Track rejections/denials of claims after changing to make sure it is adjudicated appropriately. Assess risk based on the types of denial/rejections received. Document and report non-compliance concerns to the Director of Compliance for further follow-up. Meet regularly with the provider liaison and coding consultant(s) to discuss coding and documentation issues. Actively work with the electronic health record team in the evaluation and testing of the EHR to ensure accurate documentation in the EHR and appropriate capturing of charges for services, procedures, and supplies rendered during an office visit. Play a key role in the implementation of new ICD-10 codes and other coding factors . Serve and communicate effectively with students, staff and faculty from diverse backgrounds, communities and cultures Promote a safe, equitable, and respectful environment in which concerns can be addressed effectively. Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree, or a combination of related education, work experience to equal four years and must become certified as a CPC-A, CPC, CCS-P, RHIT with in one year of employment or certified as a CPC or CCS-P Must have a minimum of one year of professional coding training Coding experience in an outpatient/ambulatory clinic setting. Thorough knowledge of and experience with medical terminology, human anatomy/physiology, pathology and disease processes, health record format and content, reimbursement methodologies, conventions, rules, and guidelines for current classification systems ( ICD-9, CPT). Experience training and educating others in coding and compliance principles, conducting audits, and providing feedback. Experience working with an electronic health record. The ability to work with minimal supervision. Good interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with others, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated commitment to promoting a culture that respects and advances diversity and inclusion. Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
