Job Description:
Job SummaryThe General Finishing Operator is responsible for
rotating through the following areas of work: assembly, deburring,
polishing, washing, tumbling and other finishing activities. Will
setup and operate manual pneumatic, electric, or hand tools to
provide a cosmetically acceptable and quality product to the
customer per print and process requirements. We have opportunities
on Days, Nights, and Weekends:
- Day Shift: Monday-Thursday or Tuesday-Friday 6:00am-4:30pm
- Night Shift: Monday-Thursday 4:30pm-3:00am with 20% shift
differential
- Weekend shift: Friday-Sunday 5:00am-5:30pm work 36 hours get
paid for 40 with 20% shift differentialResponsibilitiesThe primary
duties and responsibilities of the General Finishing Operator
consist of but are not limited to:
- Accurate and competent use of all inspection equipment related
to job inspection requirements such as micrometers, air gauging,
optical comparator, refractometer, calipers, go and no-go gauges,
thread gauges and plug/pin gauges
- Follow appropriate process to polish, wash, tumble, bead blast,
hone, assemble and deburr parts as needed
- Ability to work proficiently on multiple parts within their
home area and flexible to change direction as priorities change in
home area
- Effectively repeat processes to ensure consistent parts are
coming out free of burrs
- Able to distinguish and deburr easy to reach noncomplex
features
- Proficient in use of finishing equipment in their home
area
- Proficient in use of inspection equipment needed for the parts
worked on
- Performs total preventative maintenance (TPM) in an area as
needed
- Demonstrates a high regard to quality and the
ability/willingness to train on different deburring equipment. Able
to use deburring equipment consistently.
- Perform work demanding a high degree of accuracy and close
tolerance inspection
- Guarantee part cleanliness and quality as specified by customer
requirements
- Maintain accurate inventory levels within department and
support traceability requirements through material issues
- Exhibit a working knowledge of health and safety, responsible
for safety awareness, while upholding and improving the culture of
safety within the organization. Identify opportunities for
improvement and act if appropriate before a problem occurs. Report
potential hazards, unsafe working conditions, unsafe equipment,
unsafe acts, and injuries immediately
- All other duties as assigned by management
Education and Experience
- A minimum of 2 years' experience in a manufacturing environment
in relation to machine trades with secondary operations and
assembly experience preferred
- Background in Lean manufacturing principles is a plus
- Experience in finishing or second operations preferred
Competencies
- Ability to inspect a part and willing to learn how to use
inspection equipment
- Able to interpret blueprints at a basic level, use simple math
to perform basic calculations, and use basic hand-held measuring
tools
- Understands how to navigate a computer and proficient in using
Epicor, 1factory, and other UMC programs while accurately inputting
data into all software systems
- Able to multitask and willing to learn and develop in other
finishing areas
- Communicate effectively with supervisor, finishing operators or
others regarding throughput and part quality both verbally and
written
- Ability to express ideas, share information, listen actively,
and demonstrate professionalism in written and verbal
communications
- Adheres to UMC Quality Standards
- Ensure all internal and external customers receive positive
service experiences
- Able to make effective and timely decisions
- Strong sense of urgency while maintaining excellent attention
to detail
- Must be able to work well both independently and in a team
environment
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to demonstrate
troubleshooting capabilities

Requirements
- Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and/or sitting at
workstation throughout the entirety of the shift
- Continuous use of hands and wrists in fine motor
manipulation
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 5 pounds
- Prolonged static neck flexion while deburring parts, use of
microscope and frequent use of foot controls with deburring devices
throughout the entirety of the shift
- Frequent wrist deviation when using buffing equipment
- Frequent use of hand tools such as grinders and other special
tools to remove sharp edges from machined parts
- Must be able to meet customer demand requirements for
performing visual inspection and/or other product acceptance
activities with or without accommodation About us:
