The Principal Chemist will be part of a team that supports chemical and biocompatibility activities related to materials and medical device characterization. In this role the chemist will be primarily responsible for providing chemistry assessments for Medtronic business units to help ensure the safety of Medtronic products.

A Day in the Life:---Perform Chemical Testing & Analysis
Lead, coordinate and work with fellow team members to prepare plans and execute material characterization testing for toxicological risk assessments and biological safety evaluations of Medtronic products from all internal business units.
Interface with key business partners and represent the organization on project/program teams, providing guidance and expertise as warranted.
Plan and execute critical experiments using analytical chemistry techniques such GC-MS and LC-MS.
Analyze, interpret, and draw conclusions from testing data.
Generate reports to summarize data and results.
Communicate results to internal, as well as external stakeholders through oral presentations and written reports/publications.
Engage in continuous improvement activities aimed at increasing efficiency and productivity.
Provide subject matter expertise as requested for product research and development teams.
Coaches, reviews and delegates work to junior level professionals.
Represent the material characterization group on IT issues, new software application, spreadsheet validation, ELN implementation as needed.---Regulations
Understands and adheres to department best practices and PRL facility standards for regulatory compliance.
Help implement, prepare, and maintain compliance to all department SOPs and Work Instructions (WI) under the PRL Quality system.Good Laboratory Practice
Employees must conform to the SOPs and documentation that applies to their work areas, including but not limited to, proper documentation techniques, updating the SOPs, training on the SOPs and knowledge of the GLP/GMP regulations that apply to the assigned job title.Environmental Health and Safety

---Provide suggestions and to continuously improve EHS programsMust Have: Minimum RequirementsBachelors degree requiredMinimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experienceNice to Have:
PhD or MS in Chemistry with specialization in mass spectroscopy
---Previous experience (4-7 years) performing the duties described above.
---Familiarity with ISO 10993 standards, biocompatibility, extractable & leachable testing.
---Experience working in a regulated environment.
---Operational and expert knowledge of specialized techniques such as GC-MS and high resolution LC-MS. Ability to use specialized data analysis software associated with the mentioned techniques.
---Demonstrated ability to effectively support a cross-functional team when necessary.
---Able to manage multiple tasks as well as work in a multi-disciplinary environment with good analytical, interpersonal, and professional judgment skills.
---Proficiently broad knowledge of medical terminology and scientific principles.
---Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as strong organizational abilities.
---Must be computer proficient in EXCEL, MS Project, PowerPoint, Word, etc.
---Able to work independently, with minimum supervision and demonstrating a strong work ethic.
