Job Description:

SUMMARY Hennepin Healthcare has a current opening for a MRI Technologist II in our MRI department. This part-time (0.5 FTE) will work a twoo weekend on, one weekend off schedule. The shifts will be 10 hours and go from 6:30am to 5:00pm. Under the direction of the area supervisor, performs patient care and technical functions to insure proper radiologic/medical imaging diagnosis of patients. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs MRI exams under the order of a licensed medical practitioner
  • Provides for the physical and psychological needs of patients during MRI exams
  • Ensures room and equipment are adequately prepared
  • Reviews and verifies MRI exam orders, radiologist's protocol instructions, and patient identification in accordance with hospital policy to ensure correct exam is ordered on the correct patient
  • Assesses patient risk via patient interviews and chart review; alerts nurses and/or physicians to possible contraindications for procedure (MRI safety screening, labs, allergies, etc.)
  • Assesses patient's need for care following contrast administration; arranges renal function tests and follow up according to radiologist protocol
  • Instructs patients to self-administer pre-procedure medication and enters documentation in EMR
  • Ensures patients receive the same level of care as provided on patient's unit
  • Provides education to patient and family members, assesses understanding and documents in EMR
  • Assesses patient's level of pain and notifies nurse / provider as needed
  • Selects scan parameters with consideration given to established protocols, specific patient related MRI safety factors, and other factors influencing data acquisition
  • Performs venipuncture for contrast administration
  • Evaluates patency of IV catheters prior to contrast administration; administers saline flush per protocol pre/post IV contrast administration
  • Prepares and administers oral and/or IV contrast per department protocols as prescribed by a licensed practitioner
  • Demonstrates correct anatomic positioning and use of technical parameters relating to MRI exams
  • Ensure personnel caring for patient follow safety procedures (e.g. magnet safety, infection prevention, etc.)
  • Documents clinical information in patient's chart (e.g. IV documentation, signs / symptoms relevant to exam)
  • Monitors patient's oxygen saturation levels when caring for patients with orders for "continuous" O2 sat monitoring; addresses issues according to hospital protocol
  • Initiates response to complications and emergencies arising during exams; requests assistance from nurses, providers, and other personnel as needed. Follows MRI safety requirements during an emergency (e.g. removal of patient to MRI safe area)
  • Initiates basic life support action when necessary
  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology and effects of disease processes
  • Evaluates images, recognizes normal vs. abnormal anatomy and notifies the appropriate Radiologist as needed, and takes appropriate action to address image quality issues
  • Ensures patient is prepared and radiologist-ordered protocols for pre-medications have been completed, such as contrast allergy pre-medication
  • Handles and secures medications and equipment in accordance with hospital policies
  • Utilizes the image management system; acquire, format, manipulate, archives images to the PACS system
  • Assists physicians and residents as required with MR-Guided exams/procedures using aseptic technique as needed
  • Ensures "Time-Out" is performed prior to invasive procedures
  • Assists patient with completing informed consent form, after provider has completed informed consent discussion with the patient
  • Performs order entry; accepts verbal orders with read back and modifies orders per radiologist instruction or protocol
  • Utilizes electronic medical record system appropriately (orders, scheduling documentation, and billing)
  • Implements downtime procedures (manual operations) when computer systems or equipment fails
  • Instructs new staff and students in MRI procedures and techniques
  • Performs competency evaluations for new MRI personnel
  • Assists with education and training of medical staff (Radiology Residents, Fellows, RPA's etc.)
  • Maintains equipment and room in proper working condition and trouble-shoots malfunctioning equipment. Reports malfunctions and necessary repairs to proper personnel as soon as issue is recognized
  • Respects and uses equipment appropriately. Takes ownership and reports incidents involving themselves and the equipment when it happens
  • Performs various clerical duties
  • Performs quality control procedures
  • Demonstrates and promotes a healthy work environment and good teamwork; makes suggestions for improvements
  • Demonstrates patient / family-centered care behaviors
  • Assists in organizing work flow utilizing available staff and rooms
  • Assists in coordinating and participates in departmental continuing education in-services
  • Provides peer feedback for staff performance evaluations
  • Completes additional duties/projects as assigned QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Qualifications:
    • Completion of a formal educational Radiologic Technology program accredited by a mechanism acceptable to the ARRT
    • Currently certified with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
    • Possess MR certification (ARRT)
    • Maintains minimum CEU credits as mandated by the ARRT
    • Possess current CPR certification or obtain within 4 months of employment
