Summary : This position is responsible for acquiring materials,
requisitions, placement of purchase orders for assigned
commodities, supplies and services in support of the Purchasing
Department, utilizing the MRP system. Primary focus is on strategic
procurement, continuity of supply and escalated issues in regards
to packaging. Leads and manages in relation to procurement special
projects as assigned by the Purchasing Manager. Manages assigned
responsibilities so that quality, cost and delivery objectives of
the operations are successfully supported. This position is also
responsible for developing supplier relationships resulting in
successful support of department and corporate objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
-- Enters and executes purchase orders per packaging material
-- Utilizes MRP to place orders and support procurement
-- Expedites/pushes out packaging material orders when
-- Handles escalated rejections or out of specification issues with
packaging raw materials.
-- Participates in the development of long-term and short-term
-- Identifies, qualifies, and sources suppliers for all packaging
-- Obtains the most effective long-term cost through negotiation,
competitive bidding and supplier knowledge.
-- Sets and executes cost improvement goals/efforts for packaging
-- Communicates packaging material problems to the department and
the Department Manager.
-- Submits and manages Change Controls for raw materials as
-- Works in conjunction with Purchasing Manager and Buyers to
monitor vendor performance.
-- Attends weekly MRP meetings.
-- Works closely with the Planning Manager on forecasts for top
tiered clients to assist in streamlining ordering patterns with
emphasis on packaging.
-- Leads special projects for packaging materials as assigned by
the Purchasing Manager.
-- Reviews Item Specifications for packaging materials before
-- Attends Client Meetings as dictated by client resource
-- Lead Buyer supporting all companywide sustainability and social
-- Understands the computerized procurement system and its
relationship to the various systems.
-- Maintains all purchasing databases, ensuring dependent
departments have prompt, accurate information.
-- Develops and maintains excellent supplier relationships.
-- Works as a team member with production planning, engineering,
quality, finance, shipping and inventory control to ensure supplier
service and delivery through effective communication and
negotiation of desirable objectives.
-- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Job Requirements: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
-- Bachelor's degree
-- 5 - 7 years business experience, preferably in a purchasing
and/or related field.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
-- Strong oral and written communication skills.
-- Strong attention to detail.
-- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
-- Ability to lead and operate as a team member on projects,
-- Specialized knowledge of negotiations, finance, materials
requirement planning, computer operations, inventory control
techniques, forecasting, cost/price analysis, internal systems
impacting purchasing, construction and use of standard costs and
-- Professional ethics, tact and courtesy are primary requirements
for communicating effectively with all levels of management within
the Company and with suppliers.
