Job Description:

Lead Medtronic’s Global Trade Compliance team within the Office of Ethics and Compliance, which validates Medtronic’s compliance with trade requirements across the globe, including compliance with import, export, trade security, dangerous goods, and other related international trade regulatory requirements. The Global Trade Compliance team develops & implements enterprise trade-related compliance policies & training, consults on the implementation of controls to mitigate trade risks, and executes auditing & monitoring activities across both supply chain and non-supply chain functions to ensure compliance with trade obligations. Provide strategic direction and technical expertise to the development of company-wide trade compliance priorities and standards based on the seven elements of a compliance program, including the development of governance, policies, training, controls, and auditing & monitoring activities.

This position reports to Sr. Director, Global Compliance Programs. Works closely with the Enterprise Global Trade Operations and Enterprise Legal Regulatory teams, in addition to Medtronic’s Regions and Business Groups and other functional partners (i.e. tax, finance, HR, philanthropy) across Medtronic.

A Day in the Life

This is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of essential job functions, but rather a general overview of the principal responsibilities.

•Build and maintain key elements of the Seven Elements of a Compliance Program for global trade including risk assessment, standards/policy, training, control effectiveness, and auditing & monitoring.

•Stay abreast of regulatory changes related to trade compliance; develop compliance requirements/standards, in partnership with Legal, based on regulatory requirements; and provide interpretation and implementation guidance to impacted Enterprise, Group, Region, and Functional areas.

•Develop, implement and update the trade compliance program to drive compliance with global export/import, trade security, and dangerous goods laws, regulations and other trade-related requirements of US and non-US government agencies.

•Partner with enterprise and regional legal teams to develop compliance standards and to implement risk mitigation activities on key global trade risks facing Medtronic.

•Partner with corporate and regional compliance teams to implement trade compliance program activities, serving as the trade subject matter expert (SME) for Medtronic’s compliance teams.

•Partner with enterprise supply chain, regional trade experts, and global/regional functional teams (finance, HR, tax, travel, etc.) to manage trade compliance risks and partner with such teams to implement effective controls to mitigate trade compliance risks.

•Develop employee communication and training programs to educate employees on how to best mitigate risks associated with trade related requirements.

•Oversee the development of data analytics & metrics to assess and mitigate trade compliance related risks.

•Implement an effective auditing & monitoring compliance program (2nd line) to assess the effectiveness of compliance controls across the company.

•Collaborate with regions, business units, and functional teams to oversee periodic risk assessments to ensure compliance with applicable trade laws and/or Medtronic policies and implementation of corrective measures as applicable.

A key responsibility of roles in this career stream is managing people. which includes: accountability for mentoring, developing and coaching staff on meeting/exceeding performance expectations and defined objectives, providing leadership to staff ensuring the prioritization of strategic and department level initiatives to include defining performance goals and targets, conducting performance reviews, and staff 1:1s to guide performance management and employee development efforts and manage toward departmental goals.

Communication and Influence: Develops long term strategic relationships and alliances with key internal and external

stakeholders. Communicates and conducts briefings with senior or executive leadership regarding ongoing operations and strategic initiatives. Influences across functions and businesses to negotiate and gain cooperation on operational issues and internal divergent objectives.

Leadership and Talent Management: Directs and leads a department, broad functional area or geography, including one or more teams led by managers and / or supervisors. Determines supervisory relationships and creates workforce and staffing plans to accomplish business results. Authorizes hiring, firing, promotion and reward within own area.

IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION, THE FOLLOWING BASIC QUALIFICATIONS MUST BE EVIDENT ON YOUR RESUME

MUST HAVE :

Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of legal compliance experience with 7+ years of managerial experience, or advanced degree with 8+ years of legal compliance experience with 7+ years of managerial experience.

Specialized Knowledge or Skills Required

•Collaborative mindset, particularly in a matrix environment

•Effective interpersonal, oral, presentation, and written communication skills, particularly to senior leaders

•Ability to identify complex compliance risks and translate into scorecards/metrics for leadership consumption

•Proven influence management skills, both internal and external, with political savvy to communicate effectively with executive leaders and understand business

NICE TO HAVE:

• Experience with global compliance programs, such as global trade, anti-bribery, conflict of interest or other similar programs

• Understanding of the regulatory environment and business risks for a Life Science Company

•Experience in the healthcare/medical device industry

•Experience with change management and/or process efficiency efforts (i.e. Lean Sigma)
