The Job
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) at the University of
Minnesota seeks an experienced Extract, Transform and Load (ETL)
Developer. This position will serve as the ETL lead and BI
Operations lead, supporting and growing our Enterprise Data
Warehouse (EDW) and data integration environment.
Ideal candidates for this position will demonstrate a
solutions-focused, positive approach to problem-solving with the
ability to work well both collaboratively and independently, and
with the ability to effectively manage expectations and competing
priorities. Ideal candidates will have excellent technical,
interpersonal, and communication skills, as well as a passion for
the University's mission of education, research, and outreach.

Job Responsibilities:
Data warehouse development and support (60%)
Serve as the main point of contact for ETL development and support
to ensure a stable and robust enterprise ETL environment.
Set up and execute extract, transformation and load (ETL)
functions.
Develop and optimize SQL statements, stored procedures, and views
using industry best practices for security and efficiency.
Conduct performance optimization, including query tuning, process
structuring/scheduling, schema adjustments, code refinements, and
scaling analysis.
Monitor systems to ensure data warehouse is running at peak
performance; remediate failures of automated jobs quickly.
Develop and manage methods to create, store, and maintain metadata
for usage tracking, interoperability, and comprehensive management
of business semantics.
Provide guidance to less experienced ETL developers on development
best practices.
Participate in ETL code reviews and efficiency enhancements.
Requirements analysis and documentation (20%)
Meet with clients to elicit and understand requirements, translate
business processes and definitions into data terms, and facilitate
shared understanding of data definitions among multiple
stakeholders.
Develop and maintain technical design, metadata, and business
definition documentation.
Research and Propose operational improvements using workflows and
technical improvements.
Project coordination and other duties as assigned (20%)
Act as the ETL lead in the triage, assignment, and resolution of
operational ETL issues.
Research, understand, and apply appropriate governance and
compliance requirements (e.g., FERPA) and digital accessibility
best practices.
Develop and manage work estimates, expectations, and project plans
including priorities, deliverables, timelines, and coordination of
efforts including scheduling and facilitation of meetings.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and four years of relevant experience or a
comparable combination of education, training, and experience.
Experience with data warehousing and manipulation/ETL (extract,
transformation and load) using ETL tools such as SSIS or IBM Data
Stage.
Background in working with enterprise wide Oracle data
structures.
Previous experience providing operational support for an EDW
environment.
Experience developing PL/SQL and/or T-SQL DDL and DML and
performance tuning.
Familiarity with ETL version control.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Informatica, Oracle Analytic Server, Oracle Cloud
Server, Tableau
Understanding of data governance
Experience working in an Agile development environment
Understanding of business analysis and/or project management
methodologies
Experience with programming languages (e.g., Python,, Shell
scripting). Knowledge of API's and web services
