The Chief Technology Office (CTO) is leading the transformation in a multi-cloud technology landscape by developing and delivering innovative products that delight our customers and speed to market banking products to our customers. This includes leading and managing the Cloud, Agile implementation, engineering, architecture, and all the tools, products, and training that will enable team members to achieve our transformation. Within CTO, the Enterprise Application Hosting Services (EAHS) organization's mission is to improve best in class engineered technologies and best practices that are Agile-minded, commercially-structured, compliance-oriented, and focused on the rapid delivery of high-quality, safe products and services which are consumable at scale. These enterprise products and services include Middleware (automation, engineering, operations), Cloud, DevOps and CI/CD, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and Observability/Monitoring. Position Overview The Head of Middleware Engineering will have overall responsibility for providing middleware platform solutions to the CIO teams supporting business partners across Wells Fargo. This role will define and execute Wells Fargo's technology strategy for a large portfolio of middleware products. They will actively advise executive and senior leadership on technology approach for middleware automation and engineering practices to develop multi-year strategies, roadmaps and objectives to support business and enterprise technology strategies. This role will also coordinate the allocation of people and financial resources to ensure efficient and effective engineering of our middleware ecosystem. This leader will be responsible for the following: - Overall responsibility for providing engineering capabilities for a large portfolio of middleware products across web and app services, messaging and EAI tools, database components and caching tools, etc. - Manage 7-10 directs with a geographically dispersed resource base of 80-120 full-time team members, contingent staff and vendor partnerships; including US and Offshore. - Define the strategy and roadmap to manage middleware, evaluate and implement related tooling, provide strategic technology perspective to management, recommend innovations and drive actions that align with the near- and long-term vision, enterprise priorities and industry trends. - Rationalize and optimize the Middleware Product Catalog in partnership with Middleware Operations and CIO-aligned technology teams. - Own end-to-end lifecycle management and direct software compliance for a large and complex portfolio of Middleware products with diverse underlying technology architectures including legacy and cutting edge technologies. - Accountable, together with the Head of Middleware Operations, for holistic middleware performance, service management and operational risk management, in partnership with the respective CIO-aligned technology teams. - Build and maintain strong relationships across the CTO group and key functional areas within Technology. - Translate complex, technical concepts so that they are clearly understood by all audiences in support of sound decisions to meet business objectives. - Demonstrate business partner value by understanding the business, advocating technology solutions to advance business initiatives, incorporating internal / external customer views, and managing key financial indicators to the benefit of Well Fargo's shareholders. - Provide technology perspective on industry trends, competitive landscape and market/regulatory changes leveraging industry contacts, vendors, and strategic technology partner relationships. - Manage and allocate appropriate people and financial resources to ensure efficient and effective engineering of our middleware ecosystem. - Assess current staff capabilities, identify talent gaps, and execute talent management actions aligned with human capital strategy. - Serve as a role model demonstrating commitment to diversity and inclusion, and Wells Fargo's culture and core values. Required Qualifications - 12+ years of technology infrastructure experience - 7+ years of management experience in technology - 10+ years of Middleware experience - 3+ years of automation experience Desired Qualifications - Experience managing multiple or large technology infrastructure components - Knowledge and understanding of DevOps principles - Knowledge and understanding of Information Technology governance risk and compliance processes such as; policies, control standards, risk management concepts, or information security - Ability to create and clearly articulate the target state including: the execution roadmap, costs, benefits and risks - Ability to manage initiatives related to the following: architecture roadmap that aligns with business strategy and the broader architecture community; hardware and capacity planning, consolidation and rationalization; related emerging technology assessment and incubation - Ability to motivate a team and lead strategic initiatives, collaborating across a large organization and multi-tasking as required - Experience working with executives, senior managers and subject matter experts across Wells Fargo - Ability to negotiate, influence, and collaborate to build successful relationships - Experience analyzing metrics and articulating data trends - Outstanding problem solving and decision making skills - Agile experience - Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills Other Desired Qualifications - Experience with leading transformational change at the enterprise level - Experience with multiple middleware suites and tool sets (WebSphere, WebLogic, Apache, JBOSS, Tomcat, Nginix; ESB, Solace, MQ; etc.) - Experience with automated processes in order to provision hosting solutions/services - Clear understanding of Blue Green deployments and processes - Good understanding of open source middleware products (Apache, Kafka, ELK, etc.) and implementation - Experience managing a diverse taxonomy of middleware products/offerings, as well as multiple large technology middleware component based ecosystems - Excellent design and pattern implementation skills across technology boundaries Job Expectations - Ability to travel up to 10% of the time - Willingness to work on-site at stated location on the job opening Disclaimer All offers for employment with Wells Fargo are contingent upon the candidate having successfully completed a criminal background check.
