The work days for the role would mainly be Friday, Saturday and Sunday but the occasional weekday may be required.E.A. Sween is an Equal Opportunity Employer Minority/Female/Veteran/DisabilityRole Summary:The Production Shift Manager in our Annandale plant will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations on the plant floor for 2nd Shift (Weekends) , while increasing production and revenue. They will manage scheduling, oversee daily operating reports, and increase production by providing leadership and guidance in the areas of production, sanitation, quality, safety, maintenance and warehousing. This individual will work closely with all members of our management staff and corporate resources to ensure that the highest quality of finished product is produced within the scheduled timelines in a safe and efficient manner. Expected to follow all E. A. Sween company, department and safety policies and procedures.Essential Competencies of the Role (3 5 Primary Areas):This list of competencies is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other areas of responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.1. HEALTH AND SAFETYEducates and directs personnel on the use of all control points, equipment, and resources; maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures.Enforce safety policies and procedures (both in-house and regulatory) to decrease the potential for employee injuries on the job. Acts as a point of contact for after-hours employee and plant security.2. FOOD SAFETY & QUALITYOversee the activities of personnel, ensuring departmental procedures to comply with food safety regulations, and current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).Ensures quality and safety standards are followed, met or exceeded, in order to produce and deliver safe quality food products.Promote cooperation with R&D and QA departments to establish product quality specifications, equipment and process specifications and testing requirements for process control for new and existing products.Communicate sensory and technical directions to production to ensure consistency of product quality as necessary to establish regular ongoing quality performance on production lines.Ensure ongoing technical and quality related training of production employees.Assist with root cause analysis for non-conforming product as necessary. Make suggestions for corrective actions.Work with senior management to ensure all corrective actions from all audits are completed and reviewed.Partner with the Maintenance Department to ensure the company actively maintains the facility and prioritizes repairs to the facility and equipment based on food safety risk to product or process.Ensure that all employees, including new employees, are adequately trained, instructed and supervised in food safety principles and practices commensurate with food allergens and food defense on an annual basis.Ensure that written procedures are established to determine the safety and security of returned goods, how they are to be segregated and evaluated for food safety and food safety concerns when received.4. OPERATIONS/SUPPLY CHAIN LOGISTICSImplements and manages Lean Manufacturing concepts and techniques.Executes strategies and plans to meet companys short-term and long-term supply chain management/production control requirements for a fully functional infrastructure for all aspects of purchasing, production planning and scheduling, inventory control, forecasting, shipping and receiving, distribution and logistics.3. FINANCIAL PERFORMANCEDevelop and control profits, plans, and budget.Implement cost effective systems of control over capital, operating expenditures, labor, wages and salaries.Manages capital asset maintenance.Control and minimize labor overtime, premium freight and repair expenses.Support capital project development and execution4. CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENTDrive Customer and Employee Success by seeking opportunities for improvement.Champion change throughout the organizationUse the Spirit of EA Sween to guide decisions.5. PLANT PERFORMANCE AND EQUIPMENTEstablish, direct, manage and monitor overall plant operations for production, maintenance, quality and shipping and receiving standards.Coordinate plant activities through planning with departmental managers to insure the total manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost effective manner.Maintain existing plant facilities and equipment and replace, or make adjustments to plant facilities and equipment when necessary.Implements and maintains preventative maintenance programs.Maximizing the maintenance teams operating efficiency, trouble-shooting, root-cause investigation, countermeasure implementation, preventive/predictive maintenance activities while contributing to internal projects as wellOversight of maintenance contracts and vendor relations6. LEADERSHIPProvide direction, development and leadership to 2nd shift production staff to accomplish the companys performance management goals and objectives.Train and educate 2nd shift personnel in a manner that contributes to departmental and company goals.Evaluate employee skills and performance, making appropriate recommendations.Promote a positive, team-oriented environment.7. R&D (RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT)Collaborates and supports new or revised product development execution to introduce new products and formulations.Communicate effectively with R&D, Production, Quality Assurance, Marketing, Sales, and other departments to resolve issues and ensure smooth commercialization of new or revised products.Create accurate production cost evaluations for new or revised products in cooperation with operations and other relevant teams.Ensure the timely creation and accuracy of product Bill of Materials, routings, flow charts and other supporting documentation for new and current products in compliance with SQF and other applicable management systems.Develop new processes when needed in cooperation with R&D, production and engineering teams, utilizing technical knowledge of manufacturing equipment, people and existing processes.Develop and maintain industry expertise in support of new and existing processes.Oversee testing and analysis of replacement or alternate raw and packaging materials in support of cost down and stable supply initiatives.Ensure proper communication of process and product changes.May travel to other facilities in support of product development, product transfer, process improvement and cost down projects.8. EQUIPMENTKnowledge of electric and manual pallet jack/forkliftsE1 JD EdwardsRFS Scan GunsRed ZoneRequired Qualifications:Four-year degree in Business Administration or a related degree required and 5+ years of leadership experience in a Food manufacturing environment with a proven history of delivering strong operating results.Must have strong leadership capabilities.Excellent verbal and written communications skills and strong positive employee relation skills.Good project management capabilities.The ability to diagnose operational gaps, inefficiencies and vulnerabilities, analyze operational budgets, facilitate teams and drive overall plant operational improvements.Strong computer skills.All hires will need to successfully pass a drug screen and background check Preferred Qualification (if Applicable):Advanced Safety training, HACCP training/certifications, continuous improvement skills, strong work ethic, above average organizational skills, ability to train and engage employees.Physical Demands and Work Environment:Must be highly motivated and willing to work in a fast pace environmentMust be able to work well with various levels of employees and diverse culturesThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work in cool conditions of up to 50 degrees up to 20% of the timeThe employee frequently is required to stand or walk the majority of the day; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach overhead with hands and arms.The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl as well as the ability to bend, twist, turn, push, pull.The employee on occasion will lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.This is a full-time position (40 hours per week).
