We are looking for an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist to be based at our TESCOM facility in Elk River, Minnesota.

This position is responsible for planning, implementing, and maintaining numerous EHS programs to assure the highest possible degree of safety for employees and environmental compliance. The successful candidate will be a self-starting leader who enjoys the challenges of daily involvement with all departments. The EHS Specialist will lead and be the technical authority to develop and maintain a safe work environment, control costs related to occupational accidents and illness, and ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local laws governing safety, industrial hygiene, and environmental affairs for the Elk River site.

AS THE ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY SPECIALIST, YOU WILL:

  • Provide Environmental, Safety, & Health Leadership - Provide effective leadership in promoting environmental, safety, and health initiatives through positive reinforcement of safe behavior. Deliver clear direction to ensure employees are working safely by consistently and fairly implementing environmental, safety, and health policies and work instructions.
  • Review design, equipment, methods, and materials to assure safeguarding of employees and property and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Develop and coordinate ongoing safety, Industrial Hygiene (IH), and environmental programs. Communicate safety, IH, and environmental matters verbally and in written procedures
  • Serve as a key resource to the site safety committee, including leadership of teams, initiatives, and driving all work needed under the Safety Roadmap.
  • Participate in and lead sustainability initiatives aligned with Emerson corporate objectives and goals.
  • Lead IH monitoring/lab results and recommends engineering controls and personnel protective equipment.
  • Lead accident investigations and corrective action implementation.
  • Assure that all requirements regarding the collection, storage, handling, disposal, recycling and shipping of waste are conformed to in accordance with the written Waste Management Operating Procedures, EPA requirements and Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA).

  • Run and maintain all EHS recordkeeping and reporting requirements. Investigate any accidents or near misses. Advance and promote a strong safety culture in the Company.
  • Obey all safety rules and stop work if continuing is unsafe or will build an unsafe condition. Report all safety concerns immediately.
  • Network with peers at other Emerson locations as needed.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by Director of Operations and Global EHS Director.
  • Preserve professional and technical competence by pursuing related continuing education. WHO YOU ARE:

    REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
    • Bachelor's Degree in Safety Engineering, Safety Management/ Technology/ Applied Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Safety or relevant field is required.
    • 0-3 years relevant EHS experience in a manufacturing environment or very similar environment.
    • Experience with internal and/or external audits from regulatory agencies, consultants, or corporate staff.
    • Knowledgeable of OSHA, EPA, and state regulations
    • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, rules, and codes regarding EHS.
    • Possess a high level of technical expertise, ability to apply skills to continuous process improvement while maintaining maximum levels of safety.
    • Ability to subtly and authoritatively, handle exciting conversations regarding safety and employee behavior without personal bias or judgement.
    • Take initiative and make decisions based on known policies and procedures with minimal direction.
    • Possess excellent interpersonal/communication skills and can empower and influence others.
    • Ability to travel/fly 10% to other Emerson facilities for meetings or audits
    • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now and in the future WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
      • Work within manufacturing plant conditions and elements which may include but not limited to noise, dust, chemicals, oil, and mobile equipment.
      • PPE will be required including safety glasses, ear plugs, and/or safety shoes.
        Flexible Work Schedule - Hybrid Work Option
