Department Overview The pediatric emergency department at Children's Minnesota St. Paul hospital is a 32-bed, Level IV trauma center that specializes in the assessment and stabilization of acute pediatric illness, injury and trauma. Our multidisciplinary care team of more than 150 pediatric professionals cares for over 45,000 patients a year, and can treat just about anything. The St. Paul emergency department offers 24-hour access and has some of the shortest wait times in the country. The emergency department has all private rooms, two resuscitation rooms, and is staffed with board-certified, pediatric emergency medicine physicians, pediatric nurse practitioners, and certified pediatric emergency registered nurses. Our care team has access to cutting-edge technology, intensive and medical-surgical units, and specialists to provide the best care and outcomes for our patients possible, all in a child-focused, emergency environment. . Position Summary This Clinical Educator will work in partnership with the current Clinical Educator and the ED Leadership Team in order to support the Emergency Department with a focus in on-boarding and orientation (RN/CSA) while also assisting in the advancement of ED-specific skills including (but not limited to): Advanced Sedation and Nitrous Oxide Administration Preceptor and Charge RN Development Supporting ED-IP Education/Care/Competency (especially EMR documentation and the care of seizure disorders and diabetic patients/routines) Behavioral Health Competency/Course Teaching Triage Education Decontamination Competency Qualifications :

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Licensed as a registered nurse in the state of MN
  • BSN (or higher) required.
  • Current BLS and PALS certification required.
  • TNCC and ENPC required as we are a Level IV Trauma Center.
  • 3 years' experience (in the last 5 years) in Pediatric Emergency Nursing required (at Children's MN).
  • Pediatric Nurse Certification or CEN, CPEN, CPN, or ability/willing to obtain in one year.
  • Current preceptor experience required.
  • Flexible to adjust work schedule to accommodate education sessions for all shifts as well as required meetings.
  • Committed to bridging the gap between the academic and clinical setting.
  • Demonstrates professional behavior including consistently modeling Children's Values with a positive and energetic attitude.
  • Possess strong organization, communication, group interaction, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience or interest in developing, teaching, and coordinating educational programs as evidenced by documentation of positive, consistent precepting experiences.
  • Understand competency-based education, including the ability to give constructive and effective performance feedback.
  • Committed to "joining together" with the ED leadership team to "own outcomes" and "be remarkable" by proactively identifying areas of improvement and working collaboratively to support staff and unit operations. ***Staff and manager interviews will be utilized along with a 10 minute teaching demonstration on a topic related to the Pediatric Emergency/Trauma patient population.*** Physical Demands All job offers are contingent upon successful completion of an occupational health assessment, drug screen, background investigation, and compliance with the U.S. Government Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification.
