Position Summary
Medical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for specimen
processing, test performance, test result reporting and specimen
collection. The MLS provides service in one or more sections of the
laboratory with a high level of accuracy, precision and timeliness
and ensures compliance with departmental and regulatory agency
standards. Service is provided to patients of all age groups.
Provides oversight and work direction to MLTs, MLSs and
phlebotomists in the absence of management. Supports section
technical specialist with various assignments. Non-technical duties
include taking supply inventories, stocking supplies, cleaning and
maintaining work area, equipment and instrumentation.
This position is dedicated to the Microbiology Laboratory as a
Lead. - *Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical
Laboratory Science, Chemistry or Biology or
related fields.
*Certified as a Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist
or Medical Laboratory Scientist by American Society of Clinical
Pathologists (ASCP) board of registry or equivalent professional
organization per CLIA standards. Certification must be completed by
the first year of employment and kept current according to ASCP
standards.
License/Certification/Registration required? Yes
*NCA, ASCP or equivalent
Education:
*Baccalaureate degree or equivalent required (CLIA '88
regulations)
Experience:
*Minimum 3 years of clinical laboratory experience required
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
*Requires an baccalaureate or equivalent
*Computer skills
*Detail oriented
*Must be highly organized, efficient, and multifunctional. Must
have good communication skills.
*Ability to work independently as well as in a team
*Demonstrates accountability for actions and decisions in daily
work
*Solicits and accepts feedback in a positive manner
*Offers constructive input to support the work unit
*Performs work with minimal supervisory oversight. Under general
supervision, the employee receives assignments and is expected to
carry them through to completion with substantial independence

*Has a thorough knowledge of clinical laboratory methodology,
process and policies

*Strong communication skills - written, oral; ability to present
