Job Description:
CERTIFIED OPHTHALMIC MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST NEEDED!!!-- -$32-36/hr
depending on experience-located in St Louis Park-Looking for Retina
Clinic experience-- -Position Summary:Provides advanced level
preparation of the patient for ophthalmic tests, evaluation,
treatment or education-ensuring quality patient services.-- -Tasks
and Responsibilities:-- -Essential Tasks:- Prepares patients and
examination rooms for ophthalmic tests, evaluations or treatment,
conducts initial testing and history testing appropriate to the
specific ophthalmic unit such as but not limited to: pupil testing,
basic eye anatomy, general eye drop knowledge, color vision,
steropsis, glare testing, Pvam, lensometry (automated and Manual),
pretest station (auto refractor, non contact tonometry),
keratometry, retinoscopy, refractometry, intermediate knowledge of
motility and measurements. Special testing of visual fields,
(Humphreys, Goldmann, Tangent, Confrontational), Ascans, C Maps,
OCT, Pentacam.- Communicates prescriptions and refills to
pharmacies and records in patients record.- Basic knowledge of
computer, e-mail programs, operating software- Soaks, scrubs,
packages instruments to established procedures- Logging in and out
and preparation of medical records- Sets up surgical trays and
assists in minor office procedures when applicable.- Knowledge of
equipment and instrument maintenance/calibration- Other duties that
may be expected of COMT level (according to availability and unique
needs/requirements of the position being filled:1. Triage desk2.
External/Fundus/Flourescein/Photography3. Surgery4. Low Vision5.
Performs other duties as assigned-- -Scope of Responsibility: Works
independently on recurring assignments semi-routine in nature,
applying basic judgment in selecting and applying appropriate
established procedures or techniques. Performs variances from
routine under specific instruction or guidance. Resolves
non-complex problems.-- -Internal/External Contacts:Regular
interaction with patients, customers, family members, physicians
staff and vendors.-- -Education/Experience:-- -Position requires
high school diploma. The incumbent will have either:Successfully
completed certification as an Ophthalmic Medical Technologist by
the Joint commission of Allied Health Personnel of Ophthalmology
(JCAHPO) after the required work hours and credits earned at the
COT level. -- -Or,-- -Alternately, after completion of an
accredited Technologist program, incumbent has 1 year from date of
employment to successfully complete certification.-- -Special
Knowledge/Skills/Certifications/Licenses:-- -Demonstrates knowledge
of age-related growth and development principles necessary to
provide appropriate service and assure safety of patients.Detail
oriented individual with strong human relations and organizational
skills.Ongoing certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Medical
Technologist.-- -Machines/Equipment/Software Utilized:-- -General
ophthalmology equipment including, but not limited to: phoropters,
keratometers, slit lamps, tonometers, corneal and retinal imaging,
retinoscopes, lensometers, and visual fields. General computer
skills, including Microsoft Outlook, image viewing software, and
EPIC medical records.
