Job Description:
The Executive Director is charged with delivering on the mission
and growth goals of the organization in a fiscally sound manner.
This individual is fully responsible for all operations of the
organization, including providing day-to-day direction and
developing and executing its short- and long-range strategies and
plans.
In addition to managing the effective and financially prudent daily
operations of Walk-In, the Executive Director serves as the primary
public face of the organization, engaging effectively with various
constituencies. The individual must be proactive, dynamic, and
deeply passionate about the well-being of others, with an
understanding of mental health counseling and a strong commitment
to confidentiality, core to the Walk-In mission. Walk-In's history
of excellence, confidentiality, and humility positions it for
continued evolution in mental health service provision.
The next Executive Director should be a servant leader who
encourages volunteers, paid staff, and stakeholders to lead in
their areas of expertise. They should be intelligent, eager to
learn, and willing to listen to internal and external stakeholders'
advice. The candidate must demonstrate high standards,
accountability, and integrity, making discerning, deliberate
decisions to safeguard and enhance Walk-In's reputation and
future.
Effective communication is essential. The candidate should be an
excellent communicator comfortable speaking publicly and
one-on-one, with enthusiasm for advocating for Walk-In and its
mental health services.
A demonstrated customer service orientation is vital. The leader
must model and develop a stakeholder and client-first mentality,
ideally with strong ties to the Twin Cities' social service
community or the ability to quickly establish such connections.
The candidate should possess excellent relationship-building skills
across diverse organizations and personalities, maintaining trust
and confidence. A team-oriented approach to problem-solving and
decision-making is required.
The Executive Director must work effectively with a volunteer board
to create a vision and achieve results in a fiscally responsible
manner. They should be committed to continuous improvement,
translating vision into timely results, with a creative, visionary,
and results-oriented problem-solving style.
As Walk-In is a lean organization with a small staff, the candidate
must balance delegation with hands-on leadership, fostering a
positive, forward-thinking environment. The successful candidate
will advance the organization while preserving its cultural
strengths and bringing a fresh perspective.
Under current operations, the Executive Director supervises some
social work students doing their practicum at Walk-In. Therefore,
the ideal candidate will be a Licensed Independent Social Worker or
Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker.
