About the Job


As a member of the College of Biological Sciences advancement team, the Alumni Relations and Annual Giving Manager will work to increase alumni engagement and annual giving by building affinity with the college through strategic programs, events and initiatives. The person in this role will collaborate with units and departments within the college to ensure alumni efforts are coordinated and strategic. They will serve as the college's liaison with the University's Alumni Association and University of Minnesota Foundation annual giving team.

Alumni Relations (60%)
-Develop and implement programs designed to engage alumni including mentor programs, professional networking, the Biological Sciences Alumni Society and other initiatives. Identify ways to build connection through affinity (connection to signature CBS experiences, professional affiliation, etc).
-Develop a holistic plan for engaging alumni along the entire continuum from recent graduates to retired individuals. Conduct surveys and focus groups to better understand the interests and needs of CBS alums at every stage.
-Identify opportunities to connect with alumni in key industries and leverage relationships for philanthropic and professional development purposes.
-Manage the nomination process for University-level alumni awards and coordinate the CBS alumni awards in alignment with the college's awards process.
-Record alumni engagement (event attendance, volunteering, etc) in the University's donor management system (DMS).

Annual Giving (20%)
-Develop a robust annual giving program with an eye to increasing the number of donors and providing opportunities for alumni and others to make an impact through smaller donations via annual giving campaigns and crowdfunding.
-Oversee the Dean's Circle program, which includes developing a strategy to acquire new members, hosting events, and meeting with members to increase their sense of connection to the college.
-Work closely with the Annual Giving team at University of Minnesota Foundation to produce mailers and develop strategy.

Events (20%)
-Plan and manage alumni events in the Twin Cities and beyond.
-Organize targeted events designed to build on strong areas of connection including Nature of Life, Dean's Circle, Biology Colloquium and Dean's Scholars.

Qualifications


Required Qualifications
-Bachelor's degree and at least four years of experience
-Background in alumni relations and/or advancement

Preferred Qualifications
-Background in and/or knowledge of and interest in the biological sciences, alumni relations and annual giving
-Experience working with managing a budget and using event-related applications (formstack and DMS event module)
-Knowledge of higher education and familiarity with University systems/structure
-Ability to work effectively within a large, complex organization
-Background with diversity equity and inclusion, and ability to bring that lens to this work
