Job Description:

General Summary The Executive Director will have the responsibility for and authority to manage all aspects of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLabPartnership location including the management direction of all management staff, rehabilitation nursing staff and allied health staff assigned to the PMR Program, in partnership with the Medical Director. The Executive Director will be an employee of Shirley Ryan AbilityLab and function with the Medical Director as a self-managed team. The Executive Director will report directly to the Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Corporate Partnerships, and will have accountability to certain other administrative/executive representatives ofSRALab and ABMC. In addition, the Executive Director will be accountable to the Oversight/Governing Committee of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab Partnership.The Executive Director will work collaboratively with appropriate members of the management teams of each Partnership andShirley Ryan AbilityLab affiliate to assure that the services of the Program are coordinated and integrated with other affiliate services.Consistently demonstrates support of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab statement of Mission and Philosophy by striving for excellence, contributing to the team efforts and showing respect and compassion for patients and their families, fellow employees, and all others with whom there is contact at or in the interest of the institute.Demonstrates Shirley Ryan AbilityLab Core Attributes: Communication, Accountability, Flexibility/Adaptability, Judgment/Problem Solving, Customer Service and SRALabValues (Hope, Compassion, Discovery, Collaboration, & Commitment to Excellence) while fulfilling job duties.




Principal Responsibilities


The initial responsibilities of the Executive Director will include:



  • Together with Medical Director, accountability for all activities of the PMR Program.
  • Leadership in extensive program development for acute medical/surgical, inpatient acute, outpatient, any future services of the partnership;
  • Budget development and variance analysis
  • Management of financial and material resources within the approved budget;
  • Ensuring Program compliance with regularity and accrediting agencies;
  • Monitoring and analyzing financial operations and devising proactive strategies to ensure favorable financial performance;
  • Development, implementation and management of referral promotion and marketing plan, specific to Shirley Ryan AbilityLabat the Partnership;
  • Selection and management selection of key staff for each service line level of care; programs, and sites of care;
  • Identification of appropriate skill mix and staffing plans for each service line, program, and site of care;
  • Education of allied health staff;
  • Staff development and performance evaluation



    The Executive Director will work in concert with the Medical Director to design, implement, and operate the following:



    • A high-quality and cost efficient Program;
    • Standards of quality and budgetary performance consistent withShirley Ryan AbilityLab and Partnership standards;
    • A Program responsible to the needs of the community and payers;
    • Staffing levels/ratios consistent with theShirley Ryan AbilityLab and Partnership standards of care and operational expectations.
    • Liaison and communication functions within service and among the several service lines/levels of rehabilitation care;
    • Shirley Ryan AbilityLaband Partnership organizational collaboration and integration.





      Reporting Relationships



      • Reports directly to the COO & Senior Vice President, SRALabCorporate Partnerships and to the Partnership Executive Designee.
      • Develops effective teams and working relationships with all colleagues, staff, and constituencies ofShirley Ryan AbilityLab, Partner, and of the SRALab/Partner relationship.
      • Understands and upholds shared leadership with the Medical Director.
      • In coordination with the Medical Director, manages all management staff, nursing staff and allied health staff.


        Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required


        • Bachelor's Degree and MBA, MHA, MM or related degree;
        • Five to seven years of healthcare administrative or program management responsibilities;
        • Analytical ability to design, implement and operate a continuum of rehabilitation services that spans multiple levels of care and various geographies;
        • Experience in rehabilitation service delivery in an academic hospital setting is preferred;
        • Excellent interpersonal skills necessary in order to interface effectively with all constituency groups and colleagues.


          Working Conditions

          • Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
