Job Description:

We are currently hiring a Region Manager in Minnesota/Wisconsin. Ideally the candidate will be located in Minneapolis.
The Region Manager (RM) is responsible for driving Boston Beer's sales volume and market goals through their team, wholesalers, and region's account base. The RM collaborates with the Division Director on creating and executing a multi-market strategy for all brand platforms. The RM is accountable for increasing the availability and visibility of BBC's portfolio in the region while working closely with the On and Off Premise National Accounts teams to drive National programs at the account level. The RM manages multiple levels of sales people including a team of direct managers and multiple wholesalers over various states. The RM is responsible for delivering sales growth through all classes of trade while attaining net price growth goals. The RM must deliver the annual plans by market while managing resources to budget. The RM must accomplish these goals while adhering to BBC's selling process and teaching and developing their team.

Wholesaler Management & Planning:


  • Strategic and tactical plans by wholesaler to include: annual volume goals, distribution goals, visibility, and program goals by wholesaler
  • Goals, strategies, objectives and tactics by COT developed through the region's management team
  • Budgeting forecasts by market
  • Pricing strategies by package in accordance with BBC initiatives and market knowledge

    People Management/Development: Places a high priority on business and skill development through:

    • Training, developing and critiquing the region's team and individual performance
    • Developing High Potential team members
    • Managing National goals and drive the district goal setting process
    • Completing and delivering annual reviews, development plans, and mid-year reviews with the team

      Leadership: Fosters team pride and commitment towards strategic objectives by:

      • Influencing the actions and opinions of others in a desired direction
      • Exhibiting and communicating clear direction and vision
      • Demonstrating BBC's values and leading by example

        Market Management and Development: Must be able maintain, grow, and find new business by:

        • Identifying and prioritizing opportunities for incremental volume at the region level
        • Working with the National Account Team
        • Developing strategies to close identified opportunities in conjunction with the region's management team and wholesalers

          Selling and Negotiating Skills: Must know, practice, teach and hold the team accountable to the BBC's selling process and selling skills include:

          • Sales call procedures, process and selling skills
          • Establishing goals, creating a selling story, anticipating and handling objections
          • Bracketing, concession management, and negotiation
          • Portfolio selling

            Merchandising: Supports brands in conjunction with the wholesaler and BBC team through:

            • Executing POS programs at retail to standard
            • Maintaining proper brand positioning to standard
            • Executing BBC's freshness standards

              Communication: Effectively communicates internally and externally through:

              • Creating and delivering impactful wholesaler presentations
              • Monthly Manager Meetings with direct reports and National Account Managers
              • Finance, Legal, and Brand Development by coordinating program initiatives
              • Filtering and delegating appropriate resources

                Motivating/Team Building: Lead and have strong working relationships by:

                • Establishing rapport with region and National Account team
                • Establishing rapport with wholesaler middle, upper, and ownership level management
                • Instilling commitment and enthusiasm for high levels of performance
                • Working cooperatively with others across the organization

                  Knowledge: Must be current and fluent in:

                  • Brand styles, brand priorities, national programs, and brand strategy
                  • Romancing all products to include style, ingredients, and pairings
                  • Brewing process and beer history
                  • Beer industry trends and current market trends
                  • Wholesaler structure, portfolio, and personnel
                  • Market and competitors to include distribution and volume trends, market share, wholesaler network, supplier network
                  • Sales data and trends to include sales trends, opportunity gaps, customers, competitive activities, and wholesaler activities that affect the market
                  • IRI, Cognos, and other data sources to evaluate business and make recommendations to retailers and wholesalers
                  • Knowledge of competitor brands and pricing

                    What Ingredients You'll Bring:
                    Minimum Qualifications:

                    • 7+ years Beer, Consumer Package Sales and Management, to include proven success with managing and developing a team and individuals
                    • Must be able to lift one case of beer

                      Preferred Qualifications:

                      • Bachelor's Degree Required
                      • Adult alcohol industry experience strongly preferred
