Summary: Mortenson is looking for a Payroll Manager who will be responsible for providing leadership and daily oversight of the payroll functions including Payroll Tax. What you will be doing: Daily management of the payroll functions to ensure all responsibilities are completed as required, such as supporting operational needs, paying team members in a timely and accurate fashion and meeting all required compliance activities. *Ensure sound business processes and internal controls are in place to manage risk and meet deadlines for internal and external customers. *Support strategic direction and consult with and provide oversight to functional leaders as process improvements are made. *Support leaders with resource management needs to meet the demand of the business. *Monitor and ensure all daily functions are completed on time. Supervise team members to ensure efficient and effective performance including:

  • *Assisting Sr. Manager in strategic team resource planning, including interviewing, hiring recommendations, and performance management / developmental activities for team members *Effective use of performance metrics to proactively manage payroll resource needs, along with team performance *Mentor and provide development opportunities and support *Keep abreast of best practices in the payroll field - maintaining the knowledge necessary to develop department goals, programs, and retain professional competence *Assist in creating a culture of accountability with a drive for ongoing process improvement and minimization of risk Develop and maintain department procedures & company policy Understand the technology roadmap for Payroll and 3rd party vendors such as ADP to monitor new releases and new capabilities being offered, along with leadership in the successful implementation of system upgrades / new system implementations. Subject Matter Expert for Special Projects as assigned
  • *Participate in department projects and company initiatives as required *Implement best practices *Support lean innovation Work collaboratively with other Payroll Operations teams including WFM, Union Administration and Payroll Operations System support to ensure successful delivery of services to the Company. Build effective business relationships within Mortenson to support the needs of the business. Work closely with Operations, Project Accounting, and Business Service Groups to drive strategic and process improvements. Implement improvements to enhance operating efficiency and reduce costs. Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels. Lead team members by example, offer effective coaching and feedback, and effectively manage performance. How you will succeed: *Leadership skills: ability to set assist with setting strategic direction, implement change and create a culture of accountability within the team *Ability to lead team and drive them to meet expectations and related deadlines; ability to work with different personalities and work styles *Superior organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously *Ability to address complex payroll topics, summarize / tailor information for a specific audience, and present effectively *Professional, business-driven mentality with the ability to communicate and interact with all levels of the organization, as well as external parties *Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail *Ability to perform in a fast paced, changing environment *Strong written and verbal communication skills *Ability to work independently with minimal supervision *Positive, professional attitude and excellent customer service skills *Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information *Ability to collaborate effectively and build successful business relationships across the company *Knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity, inclusive behaviors, and Affirmative Action plans and their intended use Education and Experience: *Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience *Minimum five years of experience as a payroll administrator, with progressively more complex assignments *Supervisory experience preferred *Experience with Canadian and Union workforces a plus *Strong computer skills, with experience using an integrated payroll and time and attendance system required. Oracle Cloud payroll and UKG Workforce Management experience preferred. *Advanced Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills *Experience with Canadian and union workforces preferred *Certified Payroll Professional preferred Mortenson is an EOE/Affirmative Action/M/F/Veteran/Disabled employer.
