OverviewThe assistant teacher will support our program and lead teachers by overseeing the general welfare, health and safety of all the children in the classroom.ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions include but are not limited to:StaffTo implement and adhere to all written policies and philosophies of Rainbow Child--Care CentersArrange for substitute teachers in the event of an absenceAttend monthly staff meetingsAssist other teachers in the classroom whenever necessaryTreat all staff members professionally and fairlyCurriculumKnow, understand and implement the Rainbow Child--Care Center curriculumGather daily observation notes, on every child who spends time in your classroomMaintain an average of 20 observation notes per child per Audit (5 week period) unless otherwise specified for part-time enrolleesComplete Assessments on each child at the end of the semesterDiscuss and review Assessments with parents at parent teacher conferencesComplete required daily and weekly formsPrepare neat and accurate forms for parents, distributing timelyTo assist with overseeing the arrangement, appearance, d--cor and learning environment of the classroom as instructed by the Lead Teacher according to Creative Curriculum guidelinesTo assist in overseeing the general welfare, health and safety of the children in your classroomTo assist in planning, executing and participating in age appropriate activities for the social-emotional, physical, cognitive and nutritional development of children--ChildrenTo oversee the general welfare, health and safety of all the children in the classroomTo assist, execute and participate in age appropriate activities for the social-emotional, physical, cognitive and nutritional development of childrenTo adjust the program to children with special needsTo treat all children of all races, religions, family background and cultures impartially and with respect and considerationProvide children of both sexes the equal opportunities to take part in all activitiesHelp children deal with anger, sadness and frustration by comforting, identifying feelings and helping children us words to solve their problemsMirror the behavior you expect, using manners and positive languageMaintain primary caregiver role (Infant and Toddler classrooms)Primary caregiver role includes but is not limited to:Checking diapers every hour and changing diapers as neededHolding, rocking, picking-up, carrying and playing with children at their level, which may include sitting/movement on the floorTo greet children by name upon arrivalTo maintain simple daily reports and attendance recordsHead count sheets must be completed accurately on a daily basisHead count sheets must be maintained and organized monthly and kept on-site for three yearsProvide (Infant & Toddler) parents with daily formsRecord liquid intake and food consumption accuratelyTo observe and evaluate each child's progressUse positive approaches to help children behave constructivelyParentsTo professionally discuss the developmental progress of each child with their parent (s)To be available for parents' concerns, questions and commentsTo attend activity nights and parent functionsGeneral Essential Kitchen Functions:Adhere to Federal Food Program (if your center participates) policies and procedures regarding food service, sanitation and record keeping requirements.-- This includes but is not limited to taking meal attendance at point of service, making sure minimum serving size requirements of food and milk are served, keeping accurate records and organized filing of such records.Maintain safe and sanitary environment - Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of kitchen and workspace at all timesInventory supplies and submit timely requests for supplies and food within pre-determined budget and timeframe givenUnpack food order, write date received on food items and rotate accordingly - using oldest date first (canned, frozen, dry, and liquid)Follow menu provided by RCCC - make appropriate substitutions when necessary, ensure substitutions are nutritiousWash hands before and after restroom use and prior to and after food prepUse fresh bleach solution dailyUse RCCC sanitizing guideline on daily basisIncorporate state health department licensing requirements and state nutritional requirementsBe able to lift up to sixty (60) pounds or empty contents of box and carry safelyAssist in training teachers in cook capacity, as instructed by Program Center DirectorTo be available for parents' concerns, questions and comments related to nutritionRequirementsAccreditationTo be aware of what Accreditation is and your role to support the center's effort on obtaining and maintaining the honorary credentialTo assist with preparation of classroom for Accreditation verificationPhysicalWeight lifting requirements are as follows:6 weeks to 6 months - up to 20 pounds per child6 months to 12 months - up to 30 pounds per child12 months to 18 months - up to 35 pounds per child18 months to 24 months - up to 40 pounds per child24 months to 36 months - up to 45 pounds per childGeneral AdministrationTo participate in recommended training programs, courses and other aspects of professional growthTo open and/or close if responsibility is assigned by the Program Center DirectorTo alert the Lead Teacher / Program Center Director of any concerns that may ariseTo carry out emergency procedures and drillsTo work cooperatively with other staff members and parentsTo assume an equal share of daily housekeeping dutiesTo be certified in CPR and First AidTo think quickly and act appropriately in emergency situationsTo functioning under intense time pressurePutting in extra hours if neededAdapting to change
