and benefits for hundreds of thousands of low-wage workers through
the $15 minimum wage in Minneapolis, and Earned Sick & Safe Time in
Minneapolis and St. Paul;Transformed the retail janitorial
industry, making the Twin Cities the first metro area where the
industry is unionized;Recovered over $2 million in unpaid wages and
damages in cases of wage theft; andWon long-term changes in their
workplace that bring over $7 million in additional income per year
into the poorest communities in the metro area.Position SummaryThe
Human Resources Lead and Office Manager will lead CTULs human
resources body of work as well as manage our physical office
location in South Minneapolis. We think of this role as guiding our
people and culture work, as well as our physical space, to ensure
that the team is supported to do our best work, grounded in our
values, and aligned with our organizational purpose.This position
reports to the Director of Strategic Operations and Organizational
Effectiveness role and is a teammate to our Finance Lead. Ideally,
we would like the HR Lead/Office Manager and the Finance Lead to
cross-train with one another, deepening our internal bench of
talent and leadership and supporting our Infrastructure Department
to have team members who are both experts in their individual roles
as well as well-trained across functions and able to better support
one another as peers and teammates within this department. So while
your day-to-day work would be focused primarily on Human Resources
and managing our office space, wed love a candidate who also has an
aptitude and interest for financials, spreadsheets, payroll
administration, and other day-to-day functions of our finance
department as well as a desire to collaborate and co-learn with
team members across the organization.Position Description
(Essential duties & responsibilities may include but are not
limited to the following)Human ResourcesOversee CTULs human
resource functions, serving as the primary point of contact for
staff and managers related to HR questions and support needs.
Manage all aspects of people management, aligning formal HR
functions as well as possible to ensure an inclusive and effective
organizational culture.Establish and oversee employee recruitment,
hiring, onboarding, orientation, and offboarding processes in
collaboration with all organizational departments, hiring managers,
and our Finance LeadGuide annual performance review and 360 staff
review processesSupervise the administration of employee benefits,
including health and dental benefits, leave, paid time off,
retirement, and other benefits (like professional development).
Communicate proactively and reliably about benefits, benefits
eligibility, and changes to our benefits package for staffBuild a
strong and trusted relationship with all staff, Leads, and
Directors. Serve as a resource to managers and employees on
employee relations issues. Provide advice, counsel, and support in
resolving issues, disputes, and other sensitive matters. Guide and
support the team toward the best possible solutions as issues
ariseManage and implement the employee handbook, ensure compliance
with internal policies, and ensure that our organizations policies
are grounded in CTULs values of equity, inclusion, and racial,
gender, and economic justiceCoordinate team-wide trainings and
professional development opportunities for all staff, Leads, and
Directors. Help develop and launch our internal organization-wide
people and culture training program based on staff needs and
requests. Training categories could include HR Compliance, Risk &
Safety, Capacity Building, Leadership Development, Managing Staff
and Teams, and Equity, Inclusion, and Anti-Racism, Staff
Satisfaction and Retention, topics, among othersProvide day-to-day
backup support over functions like payroll, tax filings, W2/W4,
annual renewals, subscription management.Manage applicable
cross-departmental committees related to HR and people-and-culture
management across the organizationResearch and provide leadership
and information on HR-related issues and emerging trends. Maintain
a thorough knowledge of and ensure compliance with regulatory
environment including EEO, Fair Labor Standards, Wage and Hour,
FMLA, etc.Help produce the Infrastructure teams internal-facing
materials, including policies, manuals, toolkits, cheat sheets,
FAQs, reports, intranet and other visual documents and
presentations for staff focused on human resources.Develop annual
priorities, goals, and budgets for HROffice ManagementSupervise the
management of facilities and its related operations, ensuring that
the physical space of the organization is safe, secure and
accessible. Organize and maintain CTULs physical office location in
South Minneapolis. This includes managing office supplies for staff
who work primarily in the office; managing the use of our
conference rooms/shared meeting spaces; vendor management and
contractor management for the building; managing and processing
incoming and outgoing mail and packages; and supporting the safety
and security needs for our staff and members.Manage our
organizational security plan, attending to the safety and security
of CTULs staff, stakeholders, and organizational assetsManage our
IT, internet, and tech needs for the organization, including
procuring equipment, software, hardware, and other gear that our
staff need to do their work effectively and efficientlyManage
incoming phone calls on the English line and emails to CTULs
general info accountWork with vendors to manage ongoing contracts
and services (including technology, benefits, insurances and
facilities)In partnership with the Finance Lead, manage inventory
and depreciation schedules for CTUL equipment and oversee the
onboarding/offboarding of staff, consultants, and volunteersCreate,
maintain, and update operations and office management policies and
procedures, including an Office/Operations manual. Help produce the
Infrastructure teams internal-facing materials, including policies,
manuals, toolkits, cheat sheets, FAQs, reports, intranet and other
visual documents and presentations for staff focused on operations.
Conduct research as needed related to document production and
launches of new tools/tech.Support filing systems development and
Google Drive organization management/administration for the whole
organizationKnowledge and ExperienceAt least 2 years of HR or
people and culture management experience. Basic understanding of HR
law and a willingness and interest to gain more expertise in this
areaExceptional attention to detail, dependable and reliable, with
consistent follow throughAbility to manage competing priorities and
self-direct to meet competing deadlinesStrong verbal and written
communication skills ability to communicate complex information
clearly and conciselyExperience training other staff on complex
topics, including HR best practice and values-based HR
administration and managementAccess to reliable transportation,
including public transportation as preferred, to support managing
our physical office location, which will require some on-site work
once it is safe for us to return to the office re: COVID-19Ability
to effectively manage up and across the organization and to make
clear assessment and recommendations, drive work plans and shepherd
decision making processes on complex, multifaceted and dynamic
issuesDriven by curiosity and an interest in learning and
developing new skills across a diverse portfolio of work; able to
approach and make progress in new areas even when you lack
technical expertiseStrong and direct communicator with a relational

to support cross-training among staff in the Infrastructure
department, some experience, aptitude, or interest with nonprofit
financial management, Accounts Payable/Receivable, payroll
processing, and budget development and managementSalary &
BenefitsCTUL has a tiered salary range set by the Staff and Board
based on the principles of economic justice and inclusion. This is
a salaried position currently compensated at $53,000 with an annual
cost of living raise of 3%. This full-time salaried position will
work on average 40 hours per week.Benefits include: 3 weeks paid
vacation, 12 paid sick days, 5 floating health days, medical and
dental insurance for you and your immediate family at 10% cost,
annual end of year payment of 5% of yearly salary towards
